yoga

The practice of yoga consists of methods by which our innate spiritual intelligence can be awakened and refined. Through these practices every level of our human development and evolution is enhanced. We learn to cultivate life giving attitudes by bringing awareness to our motivations, feelings, thoughts and actions. The physical body is cleansed and strengthened through mindful posture (asana). We learn to powerfully breathe into our skins nourishing our energetic body with life force (pranayama). We breathe into our souls, fall into stillness and uncover the vastness of being that is our essential nature through meditation. By studying the illuminating works of yogic traditions we deepen our intimate and beneficent relationship with creation. The committed and sincere engagement with yoga infuses life with meaning, power and grace

Shantarasa offers a range of classes primarily through the centre at Mt Barker, South Australia, with additional classes offered through venues, and various workplace and institutional settings around the greater Adelaide area.

Facilitators are trained in a range of traditions of Hatha Yoga practice and are therefore able to tailor their classes to meet the individual needs and interests of students. Classes are geared to encourage the deep awareness necessary to achieve the states of awakening and transformation yoga practice can illicit.

Classes always include warm up and deep relaxation and are usually an hour and a half in duration.

Students are encouraged to be honest and accepting of their bodies’ capacity to perform any of the practices taught rather than trying to achieve some yogic ideal, it is through this honesty and acceptance that real opening occurs.  The guidance of skilled teachers will help you identify your postural strengths and weaknesses, the postures best suited for the stage of life and health that is current for you and thereby bringing a more rounded balance to your practice. As your practice brings about balance, ongoing mentorship will guide you to the appropriate practice to meet your development.
